Maintenance of the skins
Our advice: It is best not to wash the skins at all!
The wool fibre breaks down most substances naturally and not washing is therefore not unhygienic.
Tips to refresh your skins well;
- Make sure to beat the skins every once in a while to remove dust
- If it has snowed you can put the fur wool side down in the snow
- Freshen up the skins by letting it hang in the fog / dew
- Hang the skin in the bathroom after a steam shower
If there is a stain on the skins, you can try the following:
- If the stain is wet, pat it dry with a dry clean cloth or with kitchen paper.
- If the stain has dried, you can try to remove it with a slightly damp clean cloth.
In addition, you can use a little green soap or detergent. - Do not use aggressive cleaners!
Do you want to wash your sheepskin? Then consider the following before you washing it:
- Washing the sheepskin can reduce the natural shine and softness of a sheepskin.
As a result of regular washing, the natural wool fats dissolve. - Drying the skins may take several days to weeks. This depends on the size and thickness of the fur.
If you still want to wash, hand wash or use the wool wash program and add a soft wool detergent.
Dry the fur at room temperature, flat on the floor or on a drying rack.
Do not dry the skins in the dryer, nor in direct sunlight or near the heating: the furs will get damaged.
Stretch the skins daily to maintain the suppleness.
Once the coat is dry, brush it firmly. For example, use a hairbrush with hair or a dog brush
Has the skin of the sheepskin become hard and stiff after a wash? Then it has dried too quickly.
The naturally occurring wool fat (lanolin) is dried. You can restore this by bathing the skin in a lanolin bath.
